Jerril Dean Kopp, Chris Cantello, and Waif Mullins

July 8 - 29

Reception: July 8, 5:00–7:00pm

Three local “Masters” will display past and present works.

Jerril Dean Kopp

Jerril Dean Kopp started drawing as a child. A teacher recognized her gift for art and encouraged her to continue drawing. It is because of this encouragement that we may enjoy her paintings, drawings, blown glass, and sculptures today. Water colors, oils, pastels, and colored pencils are her favorite mediums, though enjoys enjoys all media. Kopp's work has been seen all over the country from her home town of Chico, California to as far away as New York City, New York. She earned a Bachelor and a Master's Degree in Art from CSU, Chico. Children and adults from all over the North Valley have been mentored by her and her love of drawing.

Jerril Dean Green Kopp was born on April 19th,1944 in Northern California. She is the wife of the late Patrick Kopp, the mother of two daughters, Lis and Kerrie and grandmother of four grandchildren whom are the loves of her life. Kopp has been a member at the Chico Art Center for decades. She was the original gallery director. She has taught paper making as well as a plethora of studio art classes at CSU, Chico and Butte College.

Waif Mullins

People most often mention the sense of light when commentingWhether painted from life or developed from photographic references, I search for a dramatic presentation in my artwork through the use of lighting, color, and value to lead the viewer through the painting, to focus attention on the main subject. Relationships of scale are often used to add depth and an enhanced sense of reality.

Waif Mullins was born in Jackson, Tennessee, but has lived in Northern California (Chico)for most of his life. After his Bachelor of Arts degree at California State University (1972), Waif completed a Masters Degree program in 1980. Waif is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, a member Society of Western Artists, and of the Pastel Society of the West Coast.

Waif began teaching oil painting and pastel painting classes in 1998, and has given demonstrations and critiques for artist organizations throughout the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Area. His paintings have received numerous awards from regional and National juried art exhibitions. In addition, Waif’s work has been featured in national art magazines, including The Artist’s Magazine (August 2003 issue in Greg Schaber’s cover story article, "Secrets to Sparkling Water"); and in Pastel Artist International. Chris Cantello

"In the pursuit of excellence, I'm always pushing the edges of my understanding of clay, glazes and firing. This seems to be the reality of my path. It's the magic in the process that intrigues me and keeps me seeking more. I strive to make each piece of work reveal its gifts. Be it functional or not, the magic and artistry must be there or it's just another pot. A quality piece of ceramics will have a life force and this force must captivate the viewer. It has always been my intention to inspire, excite and sometimes challenge those who experience my art."

“Chris Cantello stands of his work that renders each piece a work of art, no matter how functional it may be.” - Charles Moore, Fine Art Ceramics Magazine, March 2002
