In this exhibit, The Chico Art Center offers the art community a problem. The community then submits artwork that answers or solves this problem. This show is an excellent way to get creative juices flowing, and is extremely fun to participate in.

Reception Sept 19th from 6-9 pm

This will be a unique experience combining the artistic expression
of painters with the creative abilities of floral and interior designers.
Artwork can be of any subject, but must contain at least one flower in the
image, as part of this show, we will have complementary floral
arrangements to go with some of the art. The floral designers will choose
the art that their arrangements are designed to accompany. Call for art
is now open.

National All Media Juried Exhibition

August 15 – September 12

Reception: Friday, August 15, 5-7pm

The Chico Art Center hosts its annual juried show, offering artists the chance to compete for the chance of winning an Award. All submitted pieces will be examined by the juror, and the top candidates for the prize will be exhibited. At the end of the exhibit, the winner will be chosen by the juror, and receive a prize! This is a fun opportunity for the serious artist, and a chance to add “award-winner” to a portfolio.

Sal Casa Retrospective

Chico Art Center is please to present the artwork of Sal Casa. Formerly of the California State University Chico art department. This is a career spanning body of work from this local legend. Sal is a celebrated North State artist whose works are not only collected locally, but nationally. He is an American Watercolor Society Winner, and is a longtime instructor at Chico Art Center.

Our 8th annual Contemporary Woman is open to all women 18 and older. This is a juried show, and requires an application (available online or at the CAC). This very important exhibit examines the role of women in the art world: their struggles, successes, and experiences as female artists.

Creative Fusion 2014

Creative Fusion

The Creative Fusion 10 show was a wonderful success. The reception turnout was wonderful. The Pleasant Valley High School Jazz Band was a crowd pleaser and showed off their many talents. Sundaes, brownies, and punch were served.

The caliber of artwork was really quite impressive, to the point that the Judging committee was unable to choose a single First Place winner, so there were two First place winners. This year’s prizes were: First Place; $100 of art supplies donated by instructor Cynthia Sexton and the other first place prize donation came from Art Etc. in the form of a $100 gift certificate for custom framing. Second place prize was $30 in Jon and Bon’s gift certificates, Third prize was provided by Ellis Art and Engineering in the form of an Art Project Book.

Chico Art Center is pleased to present its annual “Creative Fusion Show”, which has been delighting the community now for 10 years.

This is an annual exhibit of the exceptional student artwork from Chico’s Junior and Senior High School students. This show offers the young artists the opportunity to be in their first show and is a learning experience on how to exhibit their works of art.

This year’s participants are Bidwell Junior High School, Chico High School, Chico Junior High School, Fair View High School, Marsh Junior High School, and Pleasant Valley High School.

The opening reception will be April 25th, from 5 –7pm. Everyone is invited, see all the great artwork, have some snacks and enjoy the music provided by the Pleasant Valley High School Music Department.

Discover Series 1, 2014

Reception: Friday, March 28, 5-7pm

This show is an excellent opportunity for new artists, up-and-comers, and experienced artists with a new body of work to be shown in a gallery. To participate, an application must be filled out either online or at the Art Center. Applications are reviewed, and complimentary pieces are chosen, creating a compelling showcase of talent.

Museum of Northern California Art (monca) Showcase

Art Building Community:
From the Depot to the Veterans Building

February 21 – March 14

Reception: Friday, February 21, 5-7pm

The Chico Art Center will host an exhibition for the Museum of Northern California Art (monca) that focuses on Chico people, places and buildings. Historical photographs and memorabilia from the Veterans Building will accompany artwork from monca’s North State collection.

The arts have had a large roll in preserving historical places in Chico, including the Chico Art Center, which is housed in the historical train depot on Orange Street. Now, monca is looking to plant its roots at another of Chico’s historical building. Let’s help them get there!
