Railroad Themed Show

Prospectus/Entry Form

The Chico Art Center presents a visual art exhibition called Art All Aboard, focusing on art that celebrates its special location, a Historical Train Depot. There will be artworks by painters and photographers along with a graffiti art wall that will represent the side of a train car, one of graffiti artists’ most notorious canvases. The show will run from September 14th to October 4th.

The ‘Train Car’ graffiti art project (taking up a whole wall at the CAC) will be a live-art collaboration among local graffiti artists Dave Selkirk, Christian Garcia and friends. This project is curated by local artist and art-therapist, Cynthia Schildhauer. This project will be made up of 5 panels which will be set up at One Mile, located in Bidwell Park on Saturday, September 7th during Chico Palio where the public can view it’s creation. These one-of-a-kind panels will be for sale during the Art All Aboard Exhibition.

Later in the month, on Sunday, September 29th, the Chico Art Center will be holding a free viewing of five rare and hard to find, short and silent ‘Train Robbery’ films. The viewing will begin at 3 in the afternoon and run until about 5. Seating is limited. Food (including hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, and ice cream) and refreshments will be for sale.

The following Friday, October 4th, the Center will be holding a special event - ‘Ten-Four: Graffiti Understood,’ a conversation panel featuring the artists that took part in the ‘Train Car’ painting. This too will be open to anyone who is interested in learning about graffiti as an art form and those who have questions about the process.

Join us as we explore and discover the themes that have driven her through 60 years of artistic exploration. 'Contemporary Woman' exhibition" -Chico ER Article

In its 7th year, the juried Contemporary Woman exhibition will showcase a total of 56 combined 2D and 3D works of art.

After jurying the show, Lin Lipetz says, "Most of the subject matter did not specifically reference women and their particular interests, but instead was more about experimentation of both subject matter and media. The viewer will find the entire exhibition to be a strong cohesive statement about the current focus of women's art nationally."

Application Deadline: Feb. 23
Drop Off: April 6

Juror: Lin Lipetz

Creative Fusion 9

Creative Fusion 9

March 14 – April 6

An exhibition of exceptional student art from Chico junior and senior high schools. Friday, March 15th, 7-9pm. Awards will be announced at 7:30pm.

Chico ER Article

In its 9th year, the Creative Fusion exhibition gives Jr. and Sr. High students the opportunity to show their artwork in a professional gallery space. These are students on the brink: the brink of adulthood, the brink of self-awareness and the brink of what is to come. They are joining us from 7 different schools in the Chico area, including: PV High, Chico High, Chico Jr. High, Fairview, Marsh Jr. High, Inspire School of the Arts, and Bidwell Jr. High. 115 works of art will be shown.

Primarily this exhibition is about the students, but it is also about encouraging and fostering an environment for youth visual arts programs in our schools now when there is less money going towards them.

There will be a reception on Friday, March 15th from 7-9pm. We invite the public to join us that night in encouraging these students and celebrating the arts education programs in our town. Refreshments will be served.
