Class Details

“A SPLASH OF COLOR” WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP
SATURDAY JUNE 28th (9am-5pm) & SUNDAY JUNE 29th (9am-4pm)
$120 (CAC MEMBER) / $150 (NON-MEMBER)

This two-day workshop is designed to demonstrate the use of a controlled pour technique to create loose, spontaneous watercolor paintings. Using only three colors, you will create at least three paintings of flowers, grapes and a landscape. Brushwork and some masking agents will be used to provide detail and unique effects. Some watercolor preferred. A constructive critique will be offered at the end of the session.

Evonne Cramer studied commercial art and design at the California School of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA, and with many masters of watercolor such as Lian Zhen and Ken Hosmer. She says, “I am most often inspired by nature’s beauty. My paintings are filled with light and color. FIGURE DRAWING
June 18–August 6, Wednesdays 6pm-9pm (8 sessions)
$180 (CAC MEMBER) / $185 (NON-MEMBER)

INSTRUCTOR: Sal Casa, (530) 343-6887

This class focuses on the nude and the figure in costume. Emphasis will be placed on the draped model. Most of the work will be done in color – both dry and wet-on-wet. All levels are welcome.


WATERCOLOR

This popular class welcomes students from beginning to advanced artists. Classes will address still life, landscape and the figure in watercolor. Materials fee to be announced.

Sal Casa is a well-known local artist who taught at CSU Chico and other local classes. He is an award-winning member of the National Watercolor Society and his work is exhibited in Chico as well as around the country. Sal has been and will be one of the artist speakers on at the Chico Art Center. We all know Sal!


ON GOING OPEN STUDIO: 2 DIMENSIONAL DRAWING/WATERCOLOR
Tuesdays 9am–Noon
$5 per session

This is a non-instructed open studio drawing group. Non-odor producing art mediums are welcome, i.e., pencils, pastels, watercolor. Two off-site plein air sessions are planned; locations will be announced. CAC membership is required. Call leader for further information.


FUNDAMENTALS OF LANDSCAPE PAINTING
June 17–August 5, Tuesdays 9am–Noon (8 sessions), Room 2

Learn the fundamentals of landscape painting. Topics include composition, value, color, perspective, edges, brushwork, and framing. We will also discuss the traditions and current trends in landscape painting. The class includes demonstrations and hands-on instruction. All experience, levels and mediums welcome. Bring your own materials.

POTTERY ON THE WHEEL & RAKU FIRING
June 22–August 3, Sundays 2–3:30pm (4 sessions at the artist’s studio)

Adult and children’s ceramic class for beginners to advanced. Students will learn to throw “off the hump” multiple pieces from a single mound of clay. Artwork will be finished using the Japanese based Raku firing method. Experience the beauty of seeing your glowing pots removed from the fire! This class is taught at the instructor’s studio. Please call for directions. Materials fee $15.

Dave Owen is a ceramic artist, a sculptor, potter and educator from 1980 to the present. He received his degree from University of New Mexico, and has exhibited widely. His ceramic sculpture may be viewed on line at his website www.owensculpture.com


PRIMARY COLOR WATERCOLOR FOR KIDS
July 18 & 25 and August 1 & 8, Fridays 3:30pm–5:30pm (4 weeks)
$50 (CAC MEMBER) / $40 (NON-MEMBER)

Children are introduced to wet on wet watercolor using three primary colors. The young artists will have the opportunity to experience and appreciate the depth and richness of color rather than concentrating on perfection of form. This will allow them to paint more freely from the realm of feeling where true creativity begins. Materials included.

Special note to parents: Do not drop off children before instructor is in the classroom. Please walk your children to the classroom and pick them up promptly after class. Parents must fill out a medical and information form before the child’s first class meeting.

Nyah Gueye received a degree in Art History from University of California at Santa Cruz. She has taught drawing at Chico State University, and is currently working with Chico Unified School District creating after school art programs. She is the mother of four children, ages one to six years old.
