This is a non-instructed open studio drawing group. Non-odor producing art mediums are welcome, i.e., pencils, pastels, watercolor. Two off-site plein air sessions are planned; locations will be announced. CAC membership is required. Call leader for further information.

Cartooning, Animation and Comic Book Art - NEW CLASS
Ages: 8-18 (adults are welcome)

In this fun and exciting class, participants will create simple cartoon and comic book figures, horses, and dragons. Basics of flipbook animation will be taught. All ability levels including beginners are welcome. Option to develop gag cartoons, comic strips, card designs and story boards. Student may come early to class to work on projects and look at material instructor brings in.

ANIMAL ILLUSTRATION - Children’s Class

Learn to draw sleek fur, ruffled feathers, smooth fins and scaly skin. Sharpen your drawing skills and create expressive pictures of realistic animals in their natural settings. Using basic tools such as pencils, charcoal and erasers you learn to create a finished look to black and white drawings that make your critters hop, fly and slither off the page. Work intensively as you explore form, contour, texture, shadow, light, balance and expression. Use a computer for research, then develop your skills in drawing to scale and transferring images and photographs to paper. By the end of the class you have at least one finished illustration that you can be proud to display in a portfolio or on your walls.

February 7 - February 28

Pottery on the Wheel & Raku Firing

Adult and children’s ceramic class for beginners to advanced. Students will learn to throw “off the hump” multiple pieces from a single mound of clay. Artwork will be finished using the Japanese based Raku firing method. Experience the beauty of seeing your glowing pots removed from the fire! This class is taught at the instructor’s studio. February 6

Raku Party

Enjoy this fun and dramatic method of firing pottery, in a safe and festive atmosphere. Each student is given a handmade piece of pottery (3x3”) to glaze and keep when completed. The piece is then heated to 1800 degrees in 90 minutes and taken out glowing red-hot and put in a barrel with paper to produce colors. Bring food or beverage for a potluck!

February 20 & 21

Paint BIG: Intuitive Painting From The Source

A single stroke of paint can ignite a creative spark and lead to profound imaginative output and change. This mixed media workshop invites novices and pros alike to create original artwork from often-forgotten personal internal sources. Using a variety of materials and techniques including collage, pastels, creative writing and large format acrylic painting, participants will enjoy a blend of free expression and individualized instruction to create one-of-a-kind, deeply meaningful works of art.

Some additional short classes or workshops may be added during the season.
