Spring 2014

Registration starts March 23, 2013. Classes begin April 7, 2014. Not all classes start in the first week.

We offer Scheduled Classes and Workshops.

You are encouraged to register prior to the first class meeting; early sign ups indicate to instructors that they can offer the class. Registration is on a first come first served basis; no reservations without payment. All fees are due upon registration. Please use a separate check for each class payable to the instructor. Call instructors for additional information and materials lists.

Figure Drawing

This class is a basic thru advanced figure drawing class. Learn various approaches to the figure working with a live model. Gesture, blind contour, proportion, volume and detail will all be studied. Individualized instruction.

Watercolor Painting

Adult and children’s ceramic class for beginners to advanced. Students will learn to throw “off the hump” multiple pieces from a single mound of clay. Artwork will be finished using the Japanese based Raku firing method. Experience the beauty of seeing your glowing pots removed from the fire! This class is taught at the instructor’s studio. Landscape Painting with Acrylics

Capture the unique qualities of our Northern California landscapes in paint. Learn basic techniques to construct a landscape painting. We will learn how to work with Acrylics. I will introduce aerial perspective, mechanical perspective, reflection and color theory as they relate to landscape painting. We will cover blending, texture and wet in wet techniques through step by step instruction. Call the instructor for suggested materials. All levels are welcome.

Cartooning, Animation and Art Class

In this fun and exciting class, participants will create simple cartoon and comic book figures, horses, and dragons. Basics of flipbook animation will be taught. Painting and sculpture will be explored. All ability levels including beginners are welcome. You’ll have an option to develop gag cartoons, comic strips, card designs and story boards. Student may come early to class to work on projects and look at material instructor brings in. Some scholarships are available.

APRIL 9 – MAY 28

Figure Drawing

This class focuses on the nude figure in costume. Emphasis will be placed on the draped model. Most of the work will be done in color – both dry and wet-on-wet. A $15 model fee paid to instructor. All levels are welcome.

Garden Art by Hand

Hand building garden art, emphasis on proper procedures and imagination. No Totems. This class we will do bells, beads, bird feeders and garden stakes. ($10 for extra clay)

Colored Pencil : Children and Adult Workshop

Ages 7 - Adult

Techniques of colored pencil will be explored in a fun and informative way. Participants will warm up by creating a colorful pattern on a shark drawing that will be provided by instructor. Use of color contrast based on the color wheel will be examined. Students will also create a card and/or small drawing based on teachers designs or their own ideas. Examples of commissioned soft toy designs using colored pencil by the instructor will be displayed. This class is for all skill levels including beginners. Materials provided, including top line Prismacolor pencils. Some scholarships are available.

Oil or Watercolor

Come and have fun with this exciting medium. Learn about how to create a work of art through an in depth study of design principle and watercolor technique. Supply list available at Chico Art Center.

Broken Color Watercolor : Children and Adult Workshop

Ages 9 - Adult
$30 (CAC Member & children) / $35 (Non-Member).

For all skill levels especially beginners, this will be a fun class using a simple, direct approach to watercolor painting. After a warm-up creating an abstract, students will paint a horse in a landscape following instructors directions. Color will be built up using small transparent brushstrokes.  Use of the color wheel, warm and cool color contrasts, and elements of art will be stressed.  Time permitting students can create other work of their choice after the horse. Student grade paints and watercolor paper will be provided, as well as brushes, but participants may bring in their own materials as well. The instructor will also have his palette of professional colors available for use, and samples of his watercolor paintings. Some scholarships are available.

We're sorry, but there are currently no Children's Workshops scheduled.

 

Special note to parents: Do not drop off children before instructor is in the classroom. Please walk your children to the classroom and pick them up promptly after class. Parents must fill out a medical and information form before the child's first class meeting.

Some additional short classes or workshops may be added during the season.
