Summer 2014

Registration starts June 8, 2014. Classes begin June 23, 2014. Not all classes start in the first week.

We offer Scheduled Classes and Workshops.

Registration: You are encouraged to register prior to the first class meeting; early sign ups indicate to instructors that they can offer the class. Registration is on a first come first served basis; no reservations without payment. All fees are due upon registration. Please use a separate check for each class payable to the instructor. Call instructors for additional information and materials lists.

Watercolor Painting

Does the luminous, free flowing, color-saturated watercolor medium attract yet intimidate you?  I will provide students with a solid understanding of watercolor pigments, brushes and supports.  Experimentation with materials precedes a step-by-step approach to painting.  Seating will be limited so signup today by sending an email to csexton19@gmail.com or calling the Center.

Adult and children’s ceramic class for beginners to advanced. Students will learn to throw “off the hump” multiple pieces from a single mound of clay. Artwork will be finished using the Japanese based Raku firing method. Experience the beauty of seeing your glowing pots removed from the fire! This class is taught at the instructor’s studio. Please call for directions.

Explore the art of painting using acrylic artist colors. All skill levels are welcome. We will cover fundamentals of painting as well as advanced techniques. Learn form, composition, tone and color as we develop a still life painting of your own.

In this fun and exciting class, participants will create simple cartoon and comic book figures, horses, and dragons. Basics of flipbook animation will be taught. Painting and sculpture will be explored. All ability levels including beginners are welcome. You’ll have an option to develop gag cartoons, comic strips, card designs and story boards. Student may come early to class to work on projects and look at material instructor brings in. Some scholarships are available.

Small Garden accessories and handmade small planters. We will create Garden signs, hanging planters & bells or decorative mobiles using buff colored stoneware. No previous experience needed. ($10 for extra clay)

Free Mat Cutting workshop

Learn about the different types of mats. Mat cutting & boards: How to cut single and multiple mat boards. Painted bevels, hand wrapped fabric mats and deep bevels.

JULY 12

Colored Pencil : Children and Adult Workshop

Ages 7 - Adult

Techniques of colored pencil will be explored in a fun and informative way. Participants will warm up by creating a colorful pattern on a shark drawing that will be provided by instructor. Use of color contrast based on the color wheel will be examined. Students will also create a card and/or small drawing based on teacher’s designs or their own ideas. Examples of commissioned soft toy designs using colored pencil by the instructor will be displayed. This class is for all skill levels including beginners. Materials provided, including top line Prismacolor pencils. Bring your lunch and we’ll take a short lunch break. Some scholarships are available.

AUGUST 2

Broken Color Painting : Children and Adult Workshop

Ages 9 - Adult

Geared to beginners of all ages, this fun immersion in painting techniques, elements of art and the various use of color may be useful to more experienced artists also. Projects include warming up with an abstract and a face design in oil pastels and watercolors. Doing a landscape in tempera paint and acrylic follows this. The participants will draw along with the instructor to create starting points for the paintings. Students can create additional work based on their own ideas or instructor samples. All supplies provided including watercolor paper, Bristol board, and student grade paints, brushes and painting sticks. Bring your lunch and we’ll take a short lunch break. Some scholarships are available.

Pencilific! /Drawing for Life

One needs no more than a pencil and paper to begin and exciting life of mark making. We will alternately scribble, doodle, sketch and draw, and although pencil will be the tool of choice, we will throw in some glue, coffee, pastel, and maybe even some black paint. Special note to parents: Do not drop off children before instructor is in the classroom. Please walk your children to the classroom and pick them up promptly after class. Parents must fill out a medical and information form before the child's first class meeting.
