Winter 2017

Registration starts January 2, 2017, and runs until class starts. Classes begin January 16, 2017. Not all classes start in the first week.

We offer On Going Open Studios, Scheduled Classes and Workshops.

Registration: You are encouraged to register prior to the first class meeting; early sign ups indicate to instructors that they can offer the class. Registration is on a first come first served basis; no reservations without payment. All fees are due upon registration. Please use a separate check for each class payable to the instructor. Call instructors for additional information and materials lists.

LIFE DRAWING GROUP

Monday’s Life Drawing group meets on Monday morning from 9:00am to 12:00pm. It is a private group that rents space from the Chico Art Center. Although a model is provided, it is not a class with an instructor. Joining the workshop is by permission from the
group which relies heavily upon recommendations from group members and other references. You must be a member of the Chico Art Center to participate in this workshop. The other limiting factor is the amount of physical space available. To make inquiries

WATERMEDIA GROUP

Tuesday’s Watermedia group meets on Tuesday morning from 9:00am to 12:00pm. It is a private group that rents space from the Chico Art Center. There is no model provided, it is not a class with an instructor. You must be a member of the Chico Art Center to
participate in this group. Due to space limitations the group membership is limited to 9. Group is currently full. Cost is $20 to $25 per month. For additional information contract Pat Everett through the Chico Art Center.

PORTRAITURE DRAWING GROUP

Friday’s Portraiture drawing group meets on Friday afternoon, twice monthly, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. It is a private group that rents space from the Chico Art Center. Although a model is provided, it is not a class with an instructor. Joining the workshop is by

Watercolor – From the Beginning, Your Way

Class will cover color mixing, washes, wet into wet, masking, value studies, painting from life(still), planning compositions and lots of watercolor techniques as well. There will be discussions about quality of paints, paper, and brushes all with economy in mind. I will give you an overview of transparent watercolor painting, give you tools to hopefully find your own “watercolor voice” and enough enjoyment to continue on your journey…. If you took Watercolor a long time ago, if you have taken only a few classes, if you "sort of know" what to do but are not sure, or just need a "kick start" Try this class. Lessons will be generated by you, the students, working on the problems that you are having, or I will present problems for you to work on such as, What should I paint? How do I paint that? When am I done? How do you do........? This is a sampling of what we might cover in class.

Adult Tribal Belly Dance Class

Allegory’s belly dance classes include learning basic and intermediate moves and techniques. Tribal Style Belly Dance is performed in a group format. Each member learns a common dance vocabulary comprised of cues, movements, combinations, and transitions.
This creates a seemingly synchronized group dance at will. We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and bring water. All dance levels are welcomed!

Pottery on the Wheel & Raku Firing

Adult and children’s ceramic class for beginners to advanced. Students will learn to throw “off the hump” multiple pieces from a single mound of clay. Artwork will be finished using the Japanese based Raku firing method. Experience the beauty of seeing your glowing pots removed from the fire! This class is taught at the instructor’s studio. Please call for directions.

JANUARY 25 – MARCH 1

Cartooning, Animation and Art Class

In this fun and exciting art overview class, participants will create simple cartoon and comic book figures, horses, and dragons. Basics of flipbook animation will be taught. Painting and sculpture will be explored. All ability levels including beginners are welcome. You’ll have an option to develop gag cartoons, comic strips, card designs and story boards. Student may come early to class to work on projects and look at material instructor brings in.

JANUARY 19 – FEBRUARY 23

Papier MachÉ

The student will learn techniques of sculpting with paper, making special paste, various techniques for tearing paper, armature building, form enhancement, detailing and finishing techniques. No materials fee.

Watercolor

The class will deal with the basic principles of watercolor; from the initial drawing to the completed painting. Material fees are in the class cost.

Brazilian Dance

Brazilian Dance, all levels. Several different styles of Brazilian Dance will be covered, including Samba Reggae, Maracatu, Rio Samba and others. Optional performance opportunities TBA. Also will include warm ups with yoga, and core strengthening and stretching.

Learn and experience a diverse range of choreography from different parts of the world, as well as choreography from a spiritual perspective.  Students will learn different dance steps, basic choreography methods, and ways to create their own choreography from being connected to Source. Optional dance performance opportunities TBA.

Allegory’s youth belly dance classes include learning basic and intermediate belly dance movements and technique, as well as include an introduction to belly dance props. This class promotes positive body image and self-confidence. All music and movements are age-appropriate.

FEBRUARY 11

Colored Pencil: Children and Adult Workshop

Techniques of colored pencil will be explored in a fun and informative way. Participants will warm up by creating a colorful pattern on a shark drawing that will be provided by instructor. Use of color contrast based on the color wheel will be examined. Students will also create a card and/or small drawing based on teacher’s designs or their own ideas. Examples of commissioned soft toy designs using colored pencil by the instructor will be displayed. This class is for all skill levels including beginners. Materials provided, including top line Prismacolor pencils. Bring your lunch and we’ll take a short lunch break. Valentine’s Day card design provided as an option.

PAINTING WITHOUT BRUSHES

Description: Escape from the tyranny of the brush. Relearn the joy of painting you had as a child…but without reverting to finger-painting! Learn the New Action Art way to use untraditional materials and new approaches to old materials in order to free up your creative abilities. This two-day workshop will give artists a chance to play with their materials in the company of other creative people!

This workshop will provide students a chance to create acrylic backgrounds with textured effects by using paper towels, fabric, sponges, cleaning brushes and other tools and materials. For the next phase, students will use paint, acrylic ink, alcohol, and other media to embellish their artworks. Students will complete the class with two or more completed paintings, all made without brushes!

Materials needed: Canvases: Bring 2 or 3 canvases (from 12 X 12 and larger)

Acrylic inks: Four 1oz ounce bottles. Bring primary colors

Other items: 1oz bottle with 70% rubbing alcohol, spray bottle for water, 4 acrylic paint colors

Sponges and other non-conventional application tools and media (as described above) will be provided but students are encouraged to bring acrylic pens and other non-traditional tools.

Special note to parents: Do not drop off children before instructor is in the classroom. Please walk your children to the classroom and pick them up promptly after class. Parents must fill out a medical and information form before the child's first class meeting.
