WATERCOLOR Class #1 with Cynthia Sexton
Time: TBD
Cost: $300 (you may pay it in 2 installments over the two months)
This class is for any of my prior students and for anyone who is an intermediate painter.
Since this is an 8-week class you will need to pick up the drawing and watercolor paper in advance of the first session. This will allow us to begin painting on the first day of class. Drawing and paper will be available for pickup. This will also give you an opportunity to ask me any questions you may have about the class.
If you are new to my classes, please contact me as soon as possible to we can discuss supplies necessary for the class. And, those of you who have taken my classes in the past, you should have all art supplies needed.
To sign up please send an email confirmation or feel free to call.

WATERCOLOR Class #2 with Cynthia Sexton
Time:
Cost: $120
Class #2 is recommended for people who have never taken my classes as it will give you a clear understanding of my method of teaching as well as an understanding of the tools we use in the process of painting our subject.
In this class we will be painting two different subjects using only 3 paints. Each subject has a variety of colors and values that will allow you to learn how to understand color/values and how to choose which ones to use with different subjects.
The first subject will be the pitcher shown on the left and we will be using the colors: Nickel Azo Yellow, Quinacridone Magenta and Phthalo Blue.
The second subject will be painted with Nickel Azo Yellow, Quinacridone Rose and Ultramarine Blue. NOTE: the yellow is NOT Azo Yellow but Nickel Azo Yellow.
You may be able to find the paints at Ellis Art Supply along with a variety of brushes. I recommend specific brands for the colors, but you can use whatever brand you have if you wish. But, with that being said, you will need tube paint and not paint from a palette because it has dried up and will not be easy to use in order to get the colors we need quickly. Here are the colors and brands I recommend:
M. Graham: Nickel Azo Yellow
Quinacridone Rose
Ultramarine Blue
Phthalo Blue
Winsor & Newton: Quinacridone Magenta
NOTE: Daniel Smith’s Quinacridone Magenta is not the same color and will not produce the colors we need for our painting.
There are 4 brushes I recommend. They are made by Silverwhite and are in sizes 4, 2, 1, 0. These are synthetic brushes so if you want to use whatever you already own that too is up to you. I’m not sure but Ellis may also carry these brushes.
NOTE: I have brushes you can purchase from me and I also have the paints. I do not sell by the tube but I can provide you enough paint for the class for a nominal fee of $4 per color.
I will supply the paper for our paintings and color wheels. Please bring all of the following supplies:
2 ceramic plates (butcher trays will not work for this)
Masking fluid with brush and soap
Graphite paper
Paper towels
2 water bowls (no glass please)
Pencil and white eraser
Paper for keeping notes
If you want to see me prior to start of class to discuss the supplies, I will be at the Art Center Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this next week 1-4pm. As to your other supplies, I do have graphite paper, and masking fluid for sale, but the other items you will need to get prior to class.
If you wish to take a class with me, please call me or send an email to confirm which
class you desire. If it is class #1 please let me know whether you want to paint on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
Just as a reminder, Thursdays will continue to be open for anyone to 'catch up' if you have to miss a class or if you need extra help.

RENT A ROOM
INSTRUCTION
Have you ever thought of sharing your art talents with others? The Chico Art Center is now opening its two rooms to artists wishing to rent a classroom for instruction. Due to the nature of the more restrictive AB-5 laws governing casual workers, the Center has had to set up new guidelines for classroom use. The Art Center classrooms are available for rent on a monthly or hourly basis. This allows you to have a one-time workshop or an ongoing class over a number of weeks. As the instructor, you pick your schedule, the artistic talents you would like to share, and set class costs. New responsibilities for instructors include recruiting students and collecting payment. We will assist you by listing your class offerings in our monthly newsletter and on our website.
OPEN & PRIVATE GROUPS
As the contact for a group, you may rent a room for a private group of artists or for an open studio group that invites artists to join. See a list of current open studio groups below.
