Social Media Workshop

Attend a Social Media workshop given by Carol Thomson on April 8, l:30-3:30 p.m., at the Chico Art Center. Learn how to build a “Free Store” for your art in a day. Carol will guide you “Step by Step” on how to set up a Facebook Business Page, activate “Pay Pal” and the “Square,” display your art as if in a buyer’s home, and position yourself high in search engine categories. Even complete beginners can acquire social media skills. ($5 suggested donation to cover materials with half to ChiVAA and half to CAC).
Thomson is a tried-and-true expert in the business of marketing small businesses using social media. Since 2013 she has helped artists in creating a more strategic way to market their art in today’s marketplace.

Art Talk with
April 9, Sunday
On Sunday, April 9, at 3pm, at Chico Art Center, Dolores Mitchell will give a talk on the architecture and highlights of collections of the Oakland Museum of California Art and the UC Davis Art Museum. While conceived as an orientation for participants on the Chico Art Center bus trip of Saturday April l5, the talk can interest others who plan to visit these museums independently.
OMCA has one of the world’s largest holdings of California art. It is noted for: California landscape painting; Arts & Crafts furnishings; ceramics and jewelry; Bay Area Figurative painting; photography; conceptual art; and sketchbooks.
Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, UC Davis opened Nov 2016. The museum features art by its famed First Generation Art Faculty, including Robert Arneson, Wayne Thiebaud, Daniel Shapiro, Ralph Johnson, Manuel Neri, Roy De Forest and others, and also has special exhibitions.
Mitchell is an active arts professional in Chico; retired from teaching Art History at CSUC and currently interviews artists for the radio show, Weekend Showcase on NSPR/KCHO 91.7 on Fridays at 3pm.
Oakland Museum & Minetti Shrem Museum Bus Trip

The trip will begin at 7:30am from Chico and arrive back in Chico between 6:30 and 7:30pm. To those that previously paid and went on our SF MOMA trip, your only expense will be to purchase your own ticket into the Oakland Museum, seniors $10.95 and general admission $15.95. You can bring your lunch or purchase it during the visit to the Oakland Museum. For those that did not travel with us in Sept., you can purchase a spot for $75. Dolores Mitchell will be giving a presentation Sunday, April 9th, at 3pm, prior to the bus trip to talk about what you can expect at the museums. You can also check the museums schedule online by googling both sites.

Join the 2017 Fairy Door Discovery Adventure!

A number of local businesses have been visited by fairies who left doors behind. To help you hunt for the doors, pick up a poster and map for $1 at Chico Art Center to guide your discovery adventure. After April 29th the doors may be accessible only during normal business hours for the hosting business.

Dolores Mitchell will present a selection of artists exhibiting at SFMOMA and the new architectural addition. Mitchell is an active arts professional in Chico. She taught Art History at CSUC for three decades, and currently interviews artists for the radio show, Weekend Showcase on NSPR/KCHO 91.7 on Fridays at 3pm. Mitchell's painting exhibition, "Dreaming of San Francisco" opens in Chico at the James Snidle Fine Arts Gallery September 9th and runs through October.
All About Art

This two-day event is a way to preview a sample of what goes on at the Chico Art Center year round. Since 1956 we have offered fine art instruction, exhibitions and cultural events that help the community appreciate the importance of visual art in our society. In the gallery will be Small World/Small Works, the community challenge to artists of all ages to create on 12x12 canvases. Come and find out why the Chico Art Center has been in existence for 60 years - it's All About Art.
